We live in places that are full of noises, smells and lights. All day long we look at screens for texts, images and videos. We keep being active in a system that is always operative and does not consider the need to rest and sleep. Nowadays, the average sleep-time is 6.45 hours’ vs the needed 8 hours.

‘LIFE-GUARD’ should bring to mind how resting and sleeping patterns are important for our mental and physical health. We need to find space and time for resting our senses. The existing red lifeguard structure goes in ‘HIBERNATION’ during the cold winter. This should be a remind to human relation to seasons and that in winter we should have longer sleeping periods.

The LIFE-GUARD HIBERNATION installation wants to offer a resting space for our senses and remind us of their importance. It is composed of 9 modules embracing the existing red structure. The modules invite people to lay down on a textile. People will look up to the 3-meter-high wood structure, painted dark grey to let people to merge more into themselves. Close their eyes for a moment and let it go.
